Puppy/dog choice advice
"The most important decision about your dog is made before you have even seen it"
You have decided you want to get a puppy or give an adult dog a new home.
A lot of choices have to be made:
A dog's character can never be guaranteed, but there are a lot of factors that influence later character and those can help me to find you a well-matched companion.
I will advice you so you don't find yourself with a shy dog when you wanted a playful companion or you find yourself with an active dog when all you hoped for was a nice cosy friend to keep you company. I will accompany you when you choose your puppy or dog, so you can make an informed and balanced decision without being swept away by all the lovely dogs you see.
A lot of choices have to be made:
- A pedigree dog: if so, what breed would be suitable?
- a cross breed: what is his character going to be like?
- a puppy or an adult dog?
- which puppy from the litter?
- a male or a female?

- I come to your home and we will examine your wishes and needs, consider your situation.
- I will inform you about possibilities and the pros and cons.

- I will observe the dog, and will inquire/look at the mother, father and littermates and advice you about its/their behaviour.
- I will examine the circumstances in which the dog has been born and/or is now living and advice you about the consequences for his behaviour.
- If possible, we will take the dog/puppy for a walk and see how he interacts with you.
To give the best possible start to your and your new companion's life together!
Client's review:
When we decided to buy ourselves a puppy, Poppy, we sought advice from Pawsible. As the dog would be a family pet, and we had young children, the temperament of the dog was very important. We asked Orna to help us, as she came recommended through a family member. Orna suggested that we view the litter with the mother, and see how the puppies interacted with us and each other.
Choosing the bounciest, strongest, bravest dog which came over to play would not be a good idea, as this dog would be of strong character, and the hardest to train, leading to difficulties in the future.
Similarly, the puppy which wandered over last, full of licks, rolling over to have its tummy tickled would be too docile and reticent for a loud, active family like ours.

Orna's astute advice was to choose a puppy from the middle of the litter, not too wilful nor too timid. We followed the advice carefully and chose our Poppy, a beautiful Dalmatian bitch. She was a welcome addition to our family, easily the best choice. Although all the puppies were lovely, Orna certainly helped us pick the best one! The Day-family, Ashford, United Kingdom
